In March 2012, the Year of the Dragon, more than 1,000 Minnesota students worked with puppet artists from In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre and Puppet Farm Arts to create dragon puppets from recycled materials. The Dragons Art Residency Program was presented by TigerLion Arts in conjunction with its winter 2012 musical production at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis, The Dragons Are Singing Tonight ~ the musical tale of a nasty dragon.
Laurie MacGregor produced the residencies, which were led by Dragons puppet designer Christopher Lutter-Gardella. In celebration, students marched their dragons in school parades directed by Dragons director Markell Kiefer. Please click here for additional information.
This activity was made possible in part by a grant provided by the Minnesota State Arts Board through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature from the State’s arts and cultural heritage fund with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
